Before the coronavirus kept most of the country and world on lockdown, we used to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with quality family get-togethers and some kind of special treat for the guest of honor (that’s you Mom!) A delicious meal at her favorite restaurant? A special weekend trip upstate? Tickets to see the newest musical on Broadway? They were the perfect ways to honor the woman who has given you everything. However, now that we are in lockdown mode and the only place you can travel to the living room from your bedroom, we’ve got to get creative… so how about planning the perfect Mother’s Day Family Brunch (Quarantine Edition)?!
To help make planning easier, here are 5 steps to make the perfect Mother’s Day F-Factor Approved Brunch!
STEP 1: PLAN A SPECIAL MENU (AHEAD OF TIME)
Since a trip to the grocery store now takes about as much time, organizing, and patience as planning a family vacation, it’s best to plan ahead and know what you’ll need to grab from the grocery store ahead of time in order to avoid any last-minute catastrophes! When it comes to planning the menu, you have a myriad of options: brunch is always the perfect combination of savory and sweet dishes, so there is literally something for everyone. From cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and waffles to frittatas, biscuits, and bacon, it’s easy to build a perfect F-Factor Approved brunch that’s full of fiber and protein! Some ideas…
- Belgium Waffles
- Any Flavor Pancakes
- Lemon Zucchini Bread
- Banana Bread
- Rustic Fruit Galette
- Lemon Blueberry Scones
- Coffee Cake Muffins
- Mixed Berries
- No-Bake Basil Seed Truffles
- Tie Die Cookies (Because they’re just so fun!)
- All Mighty Avocado Toast (can you even have a brunch without this?!)
- Everything Bagel Waffle Sandwich
- Biscuits – Homestyle or Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits
- Garden Veggie Frittata
- Shakshuka
- Egg White Bites
- Basil Bloody Mary
- Spicy Peach Margarita
- Mimosa
- Wine (we recommend Rose or a nice chilled Sauv Blanc )
- Fruit juice Mocktail (Berry/Orange/Peach)
STEP 2: PICK A THEME TO CENTER YOUR BRUNCH AROUND
Now that we’re leaving the April showers behind, what better theme to center your Mother’s Day Brunch around than spring flowers?! Be sure to pick up (or cut from your yard!) some beautiful fresh flowers that will brighten the table and make Mom feel appreciated. We recommend a combination of white and green flowers for an elegant and cohesive look (but we’re a little biased 😉 ).
STEP 3: WHAT CAN YOU MAKE AHEAD OF TIME?
Plan ahead! If there is anything you can bake ahead of time (banana breads, muffins, scones) make sure you do! It will make the day of brunch so much less stressful and more enjoyable.
STEP 4: SET THE TABLE
Every good brunch needs a beautiful table setting to set the tone for the day! Break out your nice china for a change- Mom deserves only the best right?! We recommend sitting outside (if you have outdoor seating!) to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. If not, why not try a picnic in your yard? Get a nice blanket that you can all spread out on and place the flowers and table settings around it.
Also- don’t forget to play some of your Mom’s favorite music- whether it’s country, classical or contemporary- a little music always helps to set the mood.
STEP 5: THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Now that the theme is picked, you’ve baked ahead of time and the table is set, the only thing left to do is enjoy the amazing meal (and of course those F-Factor Approved Cocktails!) you’ve put together for your Mom!
Now is a great time to make new traditions –that extra effort and creativity will really resonate and be appreciated during this time. So, no matter if you have to host your brunch via a FaceTime call or you’re lucky enough to have her sitting with you in person, we can still commemorate the occasion in a delicious and nutritious way!
