Dining Out American Tips

  • Start with an appetizer- a salad with dressing on the side or a broth based soup, fills you up and helps you to consume fewer calories during the main course.
  • Ask for the breadbasket to be removed from the table or if your dining mates would like bread keep it to their side of the table.
  • Order all dressings and sauces on the side; use zero calorie vinegar or lemon instead with a sprinkle of parmesan for flavor.
  • Go for grilled, steamed or baked over pan seared and fried.
  • Always request for your dishes to be prepared "light" (less oil).
  • Avoid ordering "creamy" or "crispy" items.
  • Substitute the fries or potato side for a salad or steamed vegetables.
  • If vegetables contain oil, butter or sauce, eat 1/2 of the serving.
  • If vegetables are plain and steamed eat as much as you like.
  • When it comes to dessert, stick to the three-bite rule. Studies show that people always rate the first and last bites as the best. Three bites give you a first, middle and last, which is all you need to appreciate a dessert completely. Also feel free to order a cup or tea or coffee to help satisfy your sweet tooth at the meal’s end.
  • If ordering alcoholic beverages opt for non dessert wines, champagne or spirits on the rocks or with club soda. Avoid sugary drinks and beer.

About RSVP

When we heard nightlife figure, Jon Bakhshi, the owner of such recently notorious night spots, Greenhouse, Juliet and WIP (most infamous of the 3 due to the Drake/ Chris brawl), was opening a restaurant in Soho two things were certain—the décor would be outrageous and we’d have to check it out. So we made a res and trekked down to Watts and Thompson on a weekday night for what turned out to be a solid evening.

The combination of purple lights and chandeliers with a good-looking crowd made for a cool ambience. Sophisticated and elegant, but by no means stuffy, the restaurant/lounge was certainly somewhere we wanted to be. We soon realized though, our issue would be the menu, which includes brunch all day, every day. Peanut butter and Jelly Pancakes, Truffle Artichoke Pizza, Truffle Mac & Cheese, the menu was flooded with items that sounded decedent, amazing and like diet disasters. Armed with a drink, we were able to stick to our F-Factor guns and order responsibly and were still pleased and satisfied. The Miso Black Cod appetizer was delicious and the Seared Ahi Tuna was cooked perfectly. For a side I chose sautéed mushrooms, which melted in my mouth. By the end of the meal I was so content I had even forgotten about the PB & J pancakes I previously was longing for. For a place that just opened June 7th, they impressively had their i’s dotted and t’s crossed. Service, food and scene were all great and I left eager to RSVP again—meaning the restaurant certainly won itself an F-Factor Apple-Green Star.

Don’t let the enticing menu intimidate you from going. Eating responsibly does NOT have to be a buzz kill. We did the dirty work for you, below please find the F-Factor Approved fare for your night out at RSVP. Something you’re dying for not listed? Remember, it’s ok to indulge once in a while, so as long as you stick strictly to the three-bite rule. Enjoy!
